CBI arrests senior J&K govt officer, aide for taking Rs 10 lakh bribe from junior official

(File) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested a senior officer of the Horticulture Department and his private associate while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a junior official to resolve his departmental issues, including his posting and promotion.
Giving out details, an official statement identified the arrested accused as Chief Horticulture Officer, Jammu, Sarbjit Singh and middleman Gohar Ahmed Dar, a civilian.
Meanwhile, sources said that the role of a senior officer in the Jammu and Kashmir government is also under the scanner of the CBI.
A CBI spokesperson said that the demand of a bribe by a senior officer for posting and promotion prompted the complainant to approach the CBI, which laid a trap and caught the accused “red-handed”.
“Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused and the premises of the Special Secretary (Horticulture). During the searches, approximately Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, documents and movable and immovable properties were seized,” the spokesperson added.
