Telangana government to name Hyderabad roads after Ratan Tata, Donald Trump

The state government will inform the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy about these plans.

Earlier this year, while addressing the annual US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) conclave in Delhi, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had proposed to name key roads in Hyderabad after leading global corporations.

A prominent stretch in the city will be named ‘Google Street’ to recognise the tech giant’s global impact.

The road alongside Google’s upcoming campus in Hyderabad’s Financial District, which is set to be the company’s largest outside the United States, will receive the recognition, said the government release.

Microsoft and Wipro are also expected to receive recognition in the city’s topography. Wipro Junction, to honour the tech mogul’s contribution to the city and Microsoft Road, which is a part of the state’s initiative to position itself as a hub for innovation-driven development.

BJP reacts

Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar hit out at Reddy, stating that Hyderabad should be “renamed back to Bhagyanagar”.

“If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning,” he said in a post on X.

He slammed Reddy for renaming places after “whoever trends”.

“What a sad state of affairs we’re living in – one side has #Twittertillu busy making AI statues of KCR who’s very much alive, and on the other is Revanth Reddy renaming places after whoever trends. Meanwhile, the only party actually stepping out, questioning the government, and taking up real people issues through MahaDharna is the BJP,” he added.
