Former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Thursday, nearly two months after the new Congress government was sworn in in the state.

KCR could not take oath in December along with the other MLAs as he suffered a hairline fracture in the hip after he slipped and fell in his farmhouse in Siddipet district’s Erravalli village on December 7. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief subsequently underwent surgery and was recuperating.

KCR, who was unanimously elected as the BRS legislative party leader earlier, also took over as the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

KCR had moved to his farmhouse after his party lost to the Congress in the November 30 Assembly elections. Winning 64 out of the 119 seats, the Congress dislodged the BRS, which could win only 39 seats, denying KCR a record third term. KCR, who had contested from two seats, won from Gajwel but lost from Kamareddy.
