(Express Photo) As many as seven tourists from Gujarat were killed and 27 injured after a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand Sunday. The bus with 35 people on board was returning from Gangotri when it met with accident at Gangnani.
According to an official release from Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey, the rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) of Uttarakhand have been carrying out relief operations at the accident site. The injured tourists are being shifted to Rishikesh for further treatment.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who is in Delhi, spoke to top officials about the accident and instructed them to carry out relief and rescue operations at a fast pace. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and medical teams are present at the spot, he said. Pandey stated that the Gujarat government is in constant touch with Uttarakhand government to get more details of the tourists killed in the accident.
Meanwhile, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel expressed grief in a post on X (formerly Twitter).-With PTI inputs
