White Nights

If you’re going to have a designer boutique at Hauz Khas Village, you better make sure it stands out among the bunch of curio stores and other quaint shops that make up the elite shopping zone. Keeping that in mind, fashion curator Shaan Thadani has made a prudent choice by opening his boutique,White,on the floor below the hip Living Room Café,catching many a customer on her way up or down.

White stocks only western wear by Indian designers. “We choose not to follow trends. We retail a variety of garments in different styles,” says Thadani. The store is done up entirely in white with wood panels in places, setting off the bright array of dresses on the racks. It stocks the latest collections by Gaurav Gupta (be sure to pick up a jersey dress or two),Prashant Verma (look out for the Eyeball dress) and Preeti Chandra (check out her little red dresses). “The idea is to promote up-and-coming designers,” says Sangeeta Tiwari, store manager,as we check out Nachiket Barve’s dual-toned summer dresses, and discover a lovely collection by new designers Gaurav and Ritika. Their clothes are lemony, light in stretchable cotton, slinky in satin and just what you need for a day by the pool or a late lunch. Another designer who catches our eye is Rahul Mishra and his dresses made out of Maheshwari fabrics. But if you really want to keep it light, pick up a Fightercock T-shirt. There are even trendy bikinis on offer as well as denims from dVb and Rock & Republic. Trying out the clothes is bound to be fun behind the risqué but blingy Hollywood-style,silver-sequined curtains. If you make a few good choices, your shopping spree should cost you anything between Rs 3,000 and Rs 15,000.
