John Travolta on why Hollywood could do more with Bollywood talents

When Hollywood actor John Travolta trooped in to Mumbai earlier this week,he was pleasantly surprised with the “warm welcome” that awaited him at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport . “About 50 journalists and cameramen welcomed me to your country. It felt great,” he says. It took just a few minutes to whisk him,his daughter,Ella, two sisters and their 16-member entourage to the waiting cars, but Travolta,56,says his reception had managed to create quite an impression on him.

In India for a two-day whirlwind tour to launch a new collection of an international watch brand,Travolta met a few Bollywood denizens at a magazine style awards event where he presented an award to Aamir Khan. He is aware of Khan, having watched Lagaan sometime back. Otherwise, the Hollywood actor’s exposure to Bollywood is limited to Slumdog Millionaire and Bride and Prejudice.

He’s optimistic though about a possible Bolly-Holly synergy. Interestingly,he feels,Hollywood studios need Bollywood talents more than Indians need them. “Your industry is financially independent and you guys have a great pool of talent. Your amazing filmmakers can really contribute to the world. In that sense, our studios need you guys more,” he said.
