Two others also arrested, police say couple had a troubled marriage
Three days after 38-year-old Virender Sachdeva, the co-owner of a confectionery shop, was found murdered, police arrested his wife,an accomplice and an alleged contract killer for the crime.
Police said the woman,Arvinder Kaur (33),revealed during questioning that the victim used to assault her on the suspicion that she was having relationships with other men. Kaur allegedly committed the crime with the help of her companion,Sant Saran Nehra (32),and Mridul Dixit (30). They were arrested on September 23.
Police said Kaur and Nehra, who owns a restaurant in Paharganj, met during a trip to Paonta Sahib,Himachal Pradesh,in 2009 and fell in love. While Kaur allegedly promised Nehra a large amount of money in return for killing her husband,Dixit was assured Rs 10 lakh for his assistance.
On September 21,police received a call stating that Sachdeva had been found murdered at his residence in A-Block,Moti Nagar. An examination revealed 35 stab wounds on his head and body.
In her statement,Kaur said she had woken up around 4 am on the day of the incident to find two masked men in the room. The men overpowered her, before banging her head on the wall and rendering her unconscious. She said upon waking up,she found her husband murdered and the entire house ransacked.
Police investigations revealed that the couple had a troubled marriage. The couple, who were married in 1997,had shifted from Tagore Garden to Moti Nagar along with their children six months ago because she was unable to maintain good relations with her in-laws.
However,Kaur soon developed hatred for her husband, who was always suspicious of her, police said. After returning from Paonta Sahib in 2009,Kaur started making frequent trips to Paharganj. This raised Sachdevas suspicions, who began physically assaulting her, said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan.
Nehra and Dixit had made the crime look like a robbery, police said.
