As people pinned the red ribbon on their sleeves to mark the World AIDS Day on Tuesday,at Religare arts.i in Delhi,20 artists assembled their work in the hope that it would generate awareness about the disease. If Daina Mohapatras work urges the viewer to be more careful with injections, which are often a source of infection,Birendra Pani penetrates a rosebud and a human eye with a needle, while Sunil Laal captures the agony in the waiting room of a hospital. The exhibition is the beginning of a year-long movement aimed at increasing awareness about AIDS and sensitising people. Different art forms will be used to fulfil the objective, says Mukesh Panika, head,Religare arts.i. There will be road shows and theatre performances across India even as curators have been roped in to get artists to paint on AIDS-related issues.
