Two members of banned Manipur outfit held,sent in judicial custody

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two suspected Manipuri militants belonging to the banned Manipur-based Kangleipak Communist Party from the Capital.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two suspected Manipuri militants belonging to the banned Manipur-based Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from the Capital on Monday. According to the DCP (Special Cell),Arun Kampani,the two members,along with others,had recently kidnapped five government officials of Manipur for a ransom of Rs 2 crore,after which they turned to Delhi to evade arrest. The Manipur Police has been informed about their arrest and a team is on its way to Delhi to take over their custody.

The accused have have been identified as Huidrom Nanao Singh alias Dinesh Singh and Mayengbam Santon Luwang,both members of the military council of the outlawed outfit. The Special Cell team that apprehended them claimed to have recovered seven mobile phones,an ATM card,two PAN cards,identity cards and a driving licence from their possession.

The Manipur Police has reportedly confirmed that Singh was involved in the abduction of five officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in Manipur.

The accused persons,along with a senior cadre of the KCP and a senior cadre of the Kuki Revolutionary Army,kidnapped five officials from Senapati district (Manipur) and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore for their release. “The abduction was carried out on November 27. After negotiation,a ransom of Rs 70 lakh was paid to them. The officials were released on December 4,” Kampani said.

The duo came to Delhi on November 30. Both are reportedly involved in several cases of kidnapping,attempt to murder and several other illegal activities in the Northeast. Officials said they were staying in West Delhi with a relative for almost a week. They were produced in the court on Tuesday,after which they were sent to judicial custody till December 11.
