Turnout rises during repolling in Jangpura

Despite moving to Delhi 15 years ago,Radhe Ram Pandey and his wife have never voted. As they made their bi-annual trip to Chhapra in Bihar in November,they knew they had missed their chance again. But a glitch in an EVM at a booth in Jangpura gave them an opportunity.

Even as they boarded Poorva Express from Patna on Friday,they were not aware that people would be asked to cast their votes again in their constituency. “It was only when we reached Aligarh that my son called me and told me that we could vote. We came to the polling centre directly from the station. This is the first time we are voting. We did not have voter ID cards earlier,” Pandey,a 55-year-old security guard,said.

Pandey and his wife Hira Devi were among the 438 who voted at the civic school in Sarai Kale Khan. The turnout at the centre saw a rise on Saturday. On December 4,around 397 people had voted. The figure rose to 438 on Saturday,EC officials said.
