Trafficking racket busted,two held

The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed it has cracked a human trafficking racket with the arrest of two persons from Paharganj last week.

The accused have been identified as Bal Bahadur Karki,a Nepal national, and Gurcharan Singh, while the alleged kingpin, one Sharmila,is still absconding. Five passports were recovered from their possession. The gang had allegedly duped over 20 people.

Around 15-20 people allegedly trafficked by this gang are still taking shelter at various gurudwaras in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. “They managed to get tourist visas and sent the applicant but did not provide any job or assistance,” a police officer said.

The police said the arrests were made following investigations into a complaint filed by one Desh Raj,who claimed he had been duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by the accused, who promised him a job as a driver in Singapore.

According to Raj,he was promised a salary of Rs 45,000 and was sent to Singapore by Sharmila and Karki on February 6. He was, however, deported the next day as he did not possess any valid travel documents.

On returning,he approached the gang once again and asked them to return his money but they told him that Singh would take him to Singapore via Malaysia. On March 6,he was sent to Kuala Lumpur, where he was to meet Singh.

Raj could not meet Singh there and returned to Delhi and approached the police. He told them that the gang was staying in a hotel in Paharganj and helped with the investigations so that the accused could be identified and arrested. On April 25,the police managed to arrest Karki and on his tip-off,Singh was arrested from Nabi Karim area.
