Having learnt their lesson from the traffic chaos on the day of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, the Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements for the closing ceremony of the mega-sporting event on October 14.
There will also be several restrictions for the commuters to follow,so all spectators headed for Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium do not face any inconvenience.
We have learnt our lesson from the difficulties people faced during the opening ceremony and have therefore come out with specific arrangements for the closing ceremony, said Satyendra Garg,Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
People are requested to familiarise themselves with the routes to be taken for reaching the entry gates of the stadium Garg added.
The three gates Gate 6 (southern gate),Gate 9 (eastern gate) and Gate 14 (northern gate) have been marked as main access for the spectators and each gate will have individual arrangements.
The Traffic Police directive says those headed for Gate 6 should take the Metro to the Jor Bagh station. Here,DTC shuttle buses will be available till 4th Avenue, from where spectators have been advised to use the pedestrian path through Barapullah parking to reach the venue.
Those using their personal vehicles can park at the Safdarjung Airport. The park-and-ride facility will take them to 4th avenue from where they can walk till the gate said Garg.
For Gate 9,spectators should use the Metro till Jangpura Metro station and then take the pedestrian path to access the gate. Those using their own vehicles can have their drivers drop them at Silver Oak,there is no parking facility available here.
Spectators who have to enter the venue through Gate No 14 can get off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro station and walk to the stadium.
The DTC will also be running focal point buses across the NCR. Visitors using the service will be ferried up to Sunehari Pullah parking, from where they can walk to the stadium.
Park-and-ride facility is available from the Safdarjung Airport parking lot and this will drop the visitors at Mehar Chand market. From here, the spectators can use the foot overbridge at Bhishma Pitamah Marg to reach Gate 14. Restrictions will also be placed in view of the marathon being held on October 14.
