You might fight night and day. He might tease you all the time. He might eat your share of the cake. But he will stand like a rock when the times are not good. He is your brother. With Raksha Bandhan just round the corner,Quest asks our young readers to write about the bond they share with their brother. Sweet or sour, they tell us tales of the most memorable moments they share with their siblings.
Last year,on May 10,I along with my brother and our parents, went to the Kedarnath shrine as there was a holiday in my school. On the way,we took photographs of ourselves and in the backdrop were the beautiful mountains and the clean, magnificent and pure Ganges. As we had taken food along with us,we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas while eating chips and biscuits.
At Kedarnath,we dipped our hands in the biting cold water of river Mandakini and had to withdraw as fast as we could. We had a competition of who could tolerate the water the longest and my brother won. When we had visited the temple and completed our puja, snowfall began. It was the first time we saw snowfall. We took a lot of photos and capturing those beautiful moments,we finally returned to Delhi.

* I will forever remember my first rakhi which turned out to be a big chase, just like trying to hook a fish on a fishing rod. It was our first Raksha Bandhan. I was six years and my brother was just seven months old. I was so excited to tie a rakhi to my sweet and naughty little brother, but he was a little suspicious about the whole rakhi preparations. The moment,I put tilak on his forehead,he started resisting. He almost spoiled two rakhies that I tied on his wrist after a long struggle. But finally I found the rakhi that made him happy and content and he gave us the sweetest smile. Every rakhi day we all recall this innocent episode and laugh it out.

* In todays world where every relation fails over a period of time,we see an unbreakable bond that promises to last for life. A sibling is an important part of ones life. I have had many rows with my younger brother. But it is very difficult to ignore him as not talking to him makes me feel as if its me who is being punished. One day while everyone was playing I was at home to look after the house. It was dark and I had no idea where my brother was. I thought he was lost. I kept crying and when my mother came back I did not know how to tell her that I had lost my brother. Then I saw my brother laughing. And I realised how my life would be without him it was actually impossible.

* Raksha Bandhan is about the love between a brother and a sister. I also tie a rakhi every year to all my brothers and they promise to protect me from every single person who tries to harm me. Once my cousin brother saved me from my parents when I broke a vase. Another time,my mother went to the market and I broke my scissors. My brother had a similar pair and he gave me that. He never told anything to my parents. Sometimes he troubles me and says “I will tell our mother, but I know that he will not. Sometimes when he troubles me a lot I tell his parents although he protects me. Once I fell down and he took me to the doctor. My brother is the best, nobody could hurt me because hes always there to protect me.

* The relationship between siblings is one of the longest lasting relationships. It is the relationship in which some moments are emotional, some are filled with anger and fights and some are filled with happiness. All these moments are unforgettable in ones life. I also cannot forget a moment with my little brother. My father had gone to office,I was at school and mother was in the market. My brother was alone in the house. Mother came back and did not find him anywhere. I also arrived home five minutes later and came to know about the incident. I thought he may be playing hide and seek with us. We tried to find him everywhere under the table, under the bed, behind the door. But we could not find him anywhere. We shouted his name many times, but heard no response. We were a worried lot and I was at the verge of crying. Finally,we saw that there were teo quilts lying in the almirah. He was sleeping between them. We laughed a lot after the incident. But I realised his importance in our lives that day. Childhood memories are never complete without siblings. It is true that fights may be unavoidable and hurtful words can be exchanged. But siblings are a joy and a blessing. They will be there throughout our lives in one way or another. On this raksha bandhan, forget all your fights and share lovely rakhis and sweets with your siblings.

* It was the first week of June. In the morning,I was suddenly awakened by the loud voices of my parents. Me and my brother sleep in one room. When I heard my parents,I woke up my brother. I went downstairs to my parents. We looked at the newspaper and found that my brother was a successful candidate in n entrance exam and had secured very high marks. Our parents felt proud of his achievement. Our relatives and friends congratulated him on his success. The school principal and the teachers too praised him for the credit he had brought to the school. I was very happy looking my overjoyed brother. It was the happiest moment with my sibling.

* Although we spend a lot of time with our siblings in a day,yet there are some moments that really become a memory for us. We cherish those moments all through our lives. I also spent one such memorable day with my brothers. It was the time when we went for an outing on my fifteenth birthday. We visited malls, watched a movie, had dinner and then we sat in a park enjoying our ice-creams. The three of us also played football with a few small kids. It was raining heavily and we played in the park for quite a long time. We spoiled our new dresses. Even today we have those dresses saved as a mark of the most cherished memory. It was the best birthday I could ever have. No cakes cut,no candles blown, yet the most delightful one. I would really love to spend one more such day with my brothers.

* Raksha Bandhan, the universal bond of protection between a brother and a sister, comes every year in August. On this occasion, sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers wrist in order to be protected life-long from all problems. But this bond of love exists not only between a brother and sister, but between all siblings. My sister and I exchange gifts every Raksha Bandhan. On the last Raksha Bandhan, however,I remember that my sister did not give me a gift. I was upset. She told me that she would bring it later. I my anger,I broke a flower vase that was my moms favourite one. I was scared of my mom’s scolding. Later, however,I saw my sister getting the scolding.I was surprised. I realised that she had saved me from a scolding by telling my mom that it was her mistake. I was touched by thinking that this bond is not only shared by a brother and sister but by two sisters too.
