In separate cases,Surendra Kumar,Habib Khan and Munni Singh have been remanded in judicial custody
The Special Court of Electricity has remanded three persons,including a woman,to Tihar Jail for power theft. A fourth was given a days sentence and slapped with a fine of Rs 3 lakh.
In separate cases,Surendra Kumar (a resident of Milan Garden) and two Bhajanpura residents Habib Khan and Munni Singh have been remanded in judicial custody till October 26.
Jasbeer Chaudhary,a resident of Khichripur,has been directed by the Court to pay Rs 3 lakh as penalty to BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL). According to officials,Surendra Kumar was caught stealing 38 KW of electricity on January 20,2012,by an enforcement team of BYPL.
He used stolen electricity to power his plastic moulding factory. A penalty of Rs 24 lakh was imposed on him. He did not pay the penalty within the stipulated time,Kumar was arrested and presented before the Special Court of Electricity. He was remanded in judicial custody till October 26, a BSES spokesperson said.
The court also remanded Munni Singh and Habib Khan in Tihar till October 26. On October 17,2011,direct theft of electricity to the tune of 7 KW was detected from their residence in Bhajanpura. The stolen electricity was used for running a hand moulding factory. A penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh was imposed on them,which they did not pay. They were remanded in judicial custody till October 26, the BSES official said.
In the third case,Jasbeer Chaudhary was awarded a days sentence and directed by the Court in Karkardooma to pay Rs 3 lakh to BYPL. On December 13,2006,Chaudhary was caught stealing 36 KW. He was stealing electricity from the nearby BYPL LV mains. A complaint was lodged by BYPL at the Kalyanpuri police station, the spokesperson said.
