Three constables among five held for assaulting chemist

Delhi Police on Saturday arrested five persons on the charge of assaulting a chemist near AIIMS in South Delhi. Police sources said that the five have been identified as Shailendra,Shailendra Pratap,Sunny,Shiv Kumar and Mohammed Sayeem Aktar. Sources said they were arrested from Connaught Place on Friday.

Investigating officers said Shailendra,Shailendra Pratap and Sunny are constables with the Uttar Pradesh police and posted as PSOs with a senior Samajwadi Party leader in Uttar Pradesh.

During questioning,Sayeem,who is posted as a driver with the politician’s son,told police that on September 17,when he went to purchase medicine for the politician’s daughter-in-law,a cough syrup was not available with the chemist. He alleged that the chemist misbehaved with him,which led to the assault.

Delhi Police had registered a case on Wednesday afternoon,after TV channels aired CCTV footage of men in police uniform assaulting the chemist.
