Though dark house music is rarely played in Delhi nightclubs, the atmosphere at Quantum,Centrestage Mall,Noida, was anything but tame when Dutch dark house and trance DJ Armin van Buuren stopped by on Friday night. The 33-year old from Leiden,Netherlands, unleashed a battery of psychedelic music to a packed dance floor till the wee hours. This was his second tour of the Capital and evidently more encouraging than the last,as couples, young and old, shouted out his name in chorus each time he paused his music. His Twitter Post early Saturday morning read,Just got back from a totally epic night in New Delhi.
Buuren is not a textbook trance DJ and is better known for his eclectic song selection while playing at nightclub gigs or recording music for his independent studio label. This has earned him four consecutive titles of World Number one DJ in the DG Mag Top 100 Poll and a Best European DJ title at the 2009 International Dance Music Awards. I dont like to be a prisoner of my own style. That is the motto I follow while playing, explains Buuren, who released his fourth album Studio Mirage a few months ago,in collaboration with Pakistani-American artist Nadia Ali and British singer Christian Burns. He is also working on his annual ritual of creating the State of Trance Year Mix.
