As soon as Anna Tikhomirova,dressed in a white tutu and a feathered head dress,took to stage,her fully stretched jetes were followed by slow dance movements while performing The Dying Swan solo. While depicting the final moments of a swans life,the ballerina from the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia fluttered her hands in the air with impressive footwork,and then descended on the stage like a feather towards the end of her performance,raising a huge round of applause from the audience. The performance organised by ICCR,Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Embassy of Russian Federation,happened on Thursday as a part of the festival of Russian culture.
24-year old Tikhomirova,daughter of a dancer who started learning ballet at the age of nine,informed us that this was her first performance in India and that she was overwhelmed by the reception. The encouragement and applause I got from the people here made me reciprocate it to them through my performance, she added.
Another highlight of the night was 28-year-old Vyacheslav Lopatin,a soloist of Bolshoi Theatre from Moscow,who received cheers from the crowd during his performance in Pas de Diane,where he was seen hovering in space,landing only for a fraction of a second to go back again in space. It is the second time he performed in the city. When asked as to how he feels while performing a dance form that many people associate with women,he quickly replied,Ballet is an art and art has no gender. Lopatin wishes to come back again to India someday. Next time,however,to see the Taj Mahal.
