While celebrations for the 200th birth anniversary of 18th century composer and pianist Frédéric François Chopin began in his country of origin,Poland,a year ago,music enthusiasts all over the world are paying their respects to the legendary musician. Sixty-four year old Adolvni Acosta,a well known US based classical pianist,is all set to enthrall the audience in Delhi with a fitting tribute to the masterwidely referred to as the greatest romantic composer of his times.
Playing Chopin is an honour and a challenge at the same time. Getting his pieces right is never an easy task in spite of almost 40 years of playing Mozart,Beethoven and Bach, smiles Acosta,who started learning music in Philippines from her mother at the age of nine. She also attended the Julliard School in New York.
Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in collaboration with the Delhi Music Society,the recital will feature a slow section of the Fantaisie-Impromptu and Étude apart from four other popular musical pieces. Chopins pieces often rely on intense melodic curves that resemble the famous operas of Chopins time, says Acosta,who also learnt Indian Classical music while studying World music in
New York. I enjoy Indian classical music a lot because of its oral legacy and improvisations. I play pieces that are strictly written down which is a little easier as compared to abstract pieces, she says.
The concert begins at 6.30 pm on March 18th at the India International Centre.
