Yet another foreign band is on its way to India. This time,it is The Prodigy,an electro-punk-techno band that emerged in early 1990s and became an integral part of underground rave scene of the UK. The band will travel to Delhi and Bangalore in January. We cant wait to come and rock India. Its been a long time since weve been wanting to come and play in India, says vocalist Maxim in an email interview. The other members are Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill. The band hit the charts with songs like Firefighter and Voodoo People.
The band will headline a new music festival called Invasion which is set to bring contemporary live acts to India. The festival is being organised by Mumbai-based Motherswear a division of a company called Only Much Louder and UK-based UKNY,owned by Zak Biddu, composer Biddus son. There have been performances by Backstreet Boys and Iron Maiden among others in India, but my aim is to get the best contemporary acts to the country, says Zak,who organises around 40 concerts all over the world every year, and also has shows of Beyonce on his CV.
The Prodigys gigs in India are a part of its promotion for its latest album,Invaders Must Die,which went straight to number one on the UK album charts earlier this year. From the minute we get off the plane,in India,it will be about the whole experience, the people, the surrounding, the environment, says Maxim. Well play a mix from our first album to our last album. The majority will be from Invaders Must Die,but well drop in tracks from Fat of the Land,Music for the Jilted Generation and Experience.
The Prodigy will play in Bangalore on January 13 and in Delhi on January 15.
