Chandigarh’s Sector 8 has always been a bustling place. But ever since Headmasters Wellness Zone opened its etched sliding glass doors a couple of years back,it has got busier. The four floors, sprawled across 20,000 sq ft,clocks an average of 250 customers each day. It is set to get more crowded, now that Headmasters has won the best spalon (spa + salon) award in the country at the 4th Asia Spa Awards,2010. The award was recently given out in Delhi.

In Chandigarh,Headmasters is a hit with people cutting across age, gender and budget. You’ll catch an indulgent mother getting her tween’s manicure done, while she books herself for an ‘oxygenating facial’ at Pevonia, the spa on the second floor. It’s also where young girls from a nearby college saunter in for a quick blow dry (showing the college identity card leads to tidy discounts), while her family members opt for the 30-minute reflexology. It’s this family appeal and the concept of a ‘beauty mall’ which makes Headmasters work.

Headmasters offers services ranging from hair cuts to massages like Sabai Stone Therapy (Rs 3,500 for 90 minutes). The latter involves a mineralised black granite stone massage therapy, which is more de-stressing than the traditional stone massage. “The award took us by surprise. It was decided through feedback from shoppers,a process that was validated by Grant Thornton,” says Pramod Dewan,MD of Headmasters.
