Watermelon,Khan Markets new restaurant, seems set for a busy innings
Khan Markets newest restaurant Watermelon,is quite a treat. Located in the heart of the markets middle lane, the 30-seater restaurant, with its funky 70s retro decor,is perched on the first floor, and is already teeming with happy customers. Originally intended to be a healthy snack bar with salad and sandwich options, the menu also has an expansive Mediterranean selection. The indoor seating is a little awkward and non-conducive to conversation, which is probably why most customers made a bee-line for the outdoor hookah area, despite the chill. The restaurant is still awaiting its liquor license, but in the meantime they have a wide array of mocktails and smoothies to choose from. With warmer weather, this restaurant can turn out to be competition for other established drinking joints at Khan Market.
With their generous portion sizes,we didnt have much room to stomach a dessert, but asked for their chefs special Almo choco cake (Rs 169) anyway. The icing was a tad disappointing, with very few almonds and only shards of caramelized sugar on top. The cake itself was over-baked and did not make for a good after-meal.
The service is quick and efficient, and the restaurant also offers mock meat made from soya or tofu for vegans and vegetarians. The menu, incorporating specials from places as diverse as Morocco and Italy,is bound to attract food lovers. Our only gripe: the seating arrangement.
