Terminate service of judge caught shouting in video: Delhi HC writes to Govt

“He is currently on probation and the full court has taken a view that his probation be terminated,” an official said. The full court is learnt to have met on September 13 and taken a view on the “overall conduct and work” of the 42-year-old judge.

“He has been given a C grade, taking into account the number of complaints received regarding his behaviour and attitude towards lawyers…,” the official said.

It is learnt that there were seven to eight complaints against the judge from the Bar, while several petitions were pending seeking transfer of cases from his court.

In the video of the court proceedings which was circulated, the judge can be seen standing up from his chair and yelling while addressing the court staff and the counsel of an accused.

In a letter addressed to the Principal District and Sessions Judge (Southwest) in Dwarka courts, the Delhi High Court Registrar General wrote: “…I am directed to say that the

hon’ble acting chief justice and hon’ble judges of this court have been pleased to order that judicial work be withdrawn with immediate effect from Aman Pratap Singh, an officer of Delhi Higher Judicial Service and presently posted as district judge-01, South-West, Dwarka, New Delhi. I, therefore, request you to do the needful under intimation to this court.”

When contacted, the judge’s secretarial staff declined to comment.

The judge, who had been practising in Dwarka court since last June, was on probation for two years. He was appointed last May as an additional district judge in Delhi. Practising advocates are directly appointed as district judges through the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Examinations.

Before his appointment, the judge was practising as an advocate in Bhiwani district court in Haryana.
