A teacher of Bluebells School International in Southeast Delhi has been arrested on the charge of molesting a Class V student.
Police identified the man as Nirmal Tamang,who taught English in the school. A case under Sections relating to molestation and wrongful confinement of the IPC and under the POCSO Act has been registered against him.
Following Tamangs arrest,police claimed that five other students of the school too have complained that Tamang had molested them on various occasions.
According to police,the incident came to the fore on Monday afternoon. Police said Tamang had asked one of his Class V students to meet him in the staff room. He then locked the room and molested her,police said.
Dr P Karunakaran,DCP (Southeast), said,The incident was reported from Bluebells School on Monday. The English teacher Nirmal Tamang has been arrested. So far,we have received only one complaint. Some other students have come forward alleging that they too were molested by Tamang. We have registered a case and are conducting a thorough probe.
The class teacher of the minor victim was passing by the staff room when she heard cries from inside the room. Upon inspection,she found the room locked from inside. Later,she caught Tamang with the child. She took the student to school principal Suman Kumar to whom the child narrated her ordeal, a senior police officer said.
According to police,the girl reportedly told the principal that Tamang had called her to the staff room. When she went there,he held her captive and molested her.
Police said the principal alerted the police control room immediately. A team was sent to the school and Tamang was arrested from the premises.
Police said their investigations also revealed that Tamang threatened his students and warned them of dire consequences if they complained to parents.
Police were in touch with the parents of other children and were checking if any other student had reported a similar incident.
Also,police along with school authorities have got in touch with an NGO for counselling students.
Tamang lives in East of Kailash and had joined the school in 2005. He taught English for students from Class V to XII.
Newsline tried to contact prinicpal Suman Kumar repeatedly over phone,but it was switched off till late Tuesday.
