Tara Gandhi interacts with students

Students of The Indian School,Sadiq Nagar,interacted with Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee,grand-daughter of Mahatma Gandhi.

On October 1,students of classes VI,VII,XI and XII of The Indian School,Sadiq Nagar,interacted with Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee,grand-daughter of Mahatma Gandhi. Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee is the vice-chairperson of Gandhi Smriti,Darshan Samiti and the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust. She spoke about the relevance of Gandhiji after 67 years of Independence and the values he stood for. She recounted various anecdotes and memories from her childhood.

This was followed by an interactive session,during which students asked questions such as ‘Why did Mahatma Gandhi refuse to become the first Prime Minister of independent India?’,‘Does globalisation refers to overlooking Indian values?’,‘Whether keeping moun vrat is still relevant?’ and so on.

Meeting of unaided private schools

The first meeting of the National Coordination Committee was held on September 28 at Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,under the chairmanship of newly elected convenor S K Bhattacharya of the national coordination committee of independent schools and the president of action committee of private unaided recognised schools. Representatives from Punjab,Haryana,Chandigarh,Tamil Naidu,Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh,Rajasthan and Delhi participated in the meeting,which deliberated on issues related to the protection and promotion of autonomy of private schools,regulation of school fees,impact of RTE (Right To Education) on quality of education,confusions related to implementation of RTI in private schools and interference of government in matters of private schools.

Red Roses honours grandparents

Grandparents of students of classes I & II of Red Roses Public School,Saket,were invited to a special function organised in their honour. The function,which was held at the amphitheatre,began with a tilak ceremony. Principal Anuradha Mehta highlighted the warmth,care and affection grandparents shower on grandchildren. Karan Mehta,grandson of school director Mrs Nayyar,who presided over the function,expressed his gratitude and attributed his success to her. Children presented gifts to their grandparents,which was followed by a group photograph.

St thomas MoU on technology interface

In a breakthrough step towards strengthening academic-technology interface,St Thomas School has entered into an MoU with SAE (Society of Automobile Engineers) and introduced AWIM (A World in Motion) programme for students of Class VI.

On September 30,the school hosted delegates from NACE International,US,jointly with SAE,India. Welcoming the delegates,school principal A Amos said,“This visit provides an excellent opportunity to students on reinforcing STEM

(science,technology,engineering and maths).

Investiture ceremony at Abhinav School

You can call them the trailblazers,the innovators,the torchbearers,the leaders,the chosen few upholding the values the school stands for. They comprise the elite school senate. On October 1,Abhinav Public School,Pitampura,formally appointed the newly elected senate,consisting of 24 members. Chief guest Dimple Verma,IAS,advised the students to be the architects of the future and builders of a collective vision. Chairman K K Bansal encouraged the students to dream big.

Workshop at Cambridge

Cambridge School,Indirapuram,organised a workshop with Kanika Dhillon,author of Bombay Duck is a Fish,Shiva and the Rise of the Shadows and the scriptwriter of Ra-One on October 5. She conducted the workshop on ‘What does it take to be a superhero’? In this session,she discussed ideas and themes that go into the creation of a superhero and had an interactive exercise on ‘Creating your own superhero’. The workshop included character building,mixing and matching ideas to generate a story and putting thoughts on paper in a creative manner. The students found it highly interactive,enriching and a fun session.

GTB excels in science competitions

Guru Tegh Bahadur 3rd Centenary Public School participated enthusiastically in a state-level exhibition,for which the theme was scientific and mathematic innovations. In the category of science models,Jasjot Singh and Prabhleen Kaur of Class V won the first prize in primary level. Baljinder Singh and Harshmeet Singh of Class VIII won the first prize in middle level. Nikhil,Vibhuti,Satpreet Singh and Jasjeet of Class X bagged the first prize in senior level. The topic for the science debate was ‘Internet and social networking’. Sarabjeet Singh and Manpreet Kaur of Class XII-A clinched the best team prize and the team was selected for the contest at all-India level. Gagandeep Sabharwal of Class XII-A won the first prize in poster-making and his poster was selected for the all-India level contest. Gursift Kaur of Class V came on top in the slogan-writing category and her slogan was also selected for the national-level contest. The theme of national science congress was ‘Energy: explore,harness and conserve’. The school team comprising Jaskiran Kaur of Class VIII,Jaskiran Kaur of Class IX,Guneet Kaur of Class IX,Tanika Gupta of Class IX and Kulpreet Kaur of Class IX won the first prize and was selected to compete at the national level.

Interactive session with Paro Anand

A storytelling workshop was conducted for Class V students of Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura. The session was conducted by well-known child fiction writer,Paro Anand. The author brought the characters of her story to life by narrating it in an interesting way. Her ability to emote through words and voice modulation kept the audience spellbound. Students also learnt to play with words through games. The session proved to be a learning experience for teachers and a fun-filled activity for the students.

Blood donation camp at Springdales

Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,organised its annual blood donation camp in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society on October 4. The list of donors included members of the staff,parents and the public. Each member of the Interact Club contributed by making posters. The donors were issued donor cards,which will enable them to access any blood bank for free in case of an emergency.

Amity adds another feather to its cap

Amity schools,under the guidance of chairperson Amita Chauhan,consistently endeavour to inculcate scientific temper among students. Upholding this tradition,Amity International School,Sector-46,Gurgaon,registered two teams to participate in the CBSE science exhibition. The first project,‘Actourney’ (An interesting activity journey) has been selected for the national-level CBSE science exhibition. Principal Arti Chopra congratulated the students and promised all guidance and help in future.
