Popular for her negative roles, the actress hopes to prove her mettle with a character-driven role on Colors Aise Karo Naa Vidaa You have been very picky about roles of late. Is this a planned move?I have to be very picky. Or else you keep essaying the same role over and over. There is no creativity left in you and you end up doing just mundane things. And I was certainly not interested in doing something just for the heck of it. You play the role of the protagonists mother in DJs Aise Karo Naa Vidaa. What are the various shades to your personality?I play Reva who carries her familys burdens on her shoulders. She is her daughters confidante and will do anything to keep her happy. But she is always keeping an eye on her daughter and all her doings. This serial seems to be based in the land of Maharajas. Tell us a bit about what went into the preparation of your character. Most characters in the serial speak a very different dialect of Hindi. But I speak in the usual dialect. Since the show is set in the village,we are dressed in a very conservative manner, with pallus on our head and lots of sindoor. Does the serial fight against any norms or superstitious practices?Of course. For a long time, the oppression of the downtrodden by the rich and powerful has been the norm. Here too my daughter is molested by the prince of the province, after which the entire village decides that she has to be married off to him. According to society, she has been defiled and is hence impure. It is this mindset that we are fighting against. The serial is slated for the afternoon band. Do you think it will again draw homemakers to the television? There have been good shows every now and then in the afternoon slot. Our sincere hope is that this one too will entertain the audiences and in turn make us happy. You have always been appreciated for your negative roles. Werent you tempted to do another one?I was sick and tired of doing negative roles. People had started referring to me as Payal (her character in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi). I would get frequent calls from producers asking me to play the role of a vamp. They had just one thing to say - that this role is exactly like that of Payals. I wanted to drive them all away. There are a few more negative roles that I did. But sometimes you do certain roles for money. But then after a point I had decided that this is it, Will we see you doing more roles in Bollywood?Nothing at the moment, since I am busy with this show. Im also working on another show Jhansi Ki Rani which is already on air,
