Take Them Down: Remove illegal hoardings,wall wraps: Farhad Suri

Officials had said they would remove all political hoardings or other illegal advertisements.

Those claims have come under a cloud after Suri showed photographs of sites on MG Road and in Rajouri Garden,where illegal hoardings had been put up.

“I have placed photos as evidence of the hoardings that have been put up illegally. We have decided to form a strict policy for those who put up legal hoardings in our jurisdiction,” Suri said.

“The policy says that advertisement agencies should put a logo of the South corporation with dates of issue and expiry of the hoarding. However,it is still on paper and there seems to be no sign of its implementation,” he said.

He alleged that these illegal hoardings were put up in collusion with senior officials.

“I have asked the advertisement department why a few agencies were given extensions despite the expiry of their contract. The department had no answer as to why six months’ extension was given and tenders not called. I need to know why these illegal hoardings and wall wraps have not been removed despite the strict policy against them,” Suri said.

The municipal commissioner,Manish Gupta,said he had ordered an inquiry into extension of advertisement agencies’ contracts.

“We will look into the matter and find out why tenders were not invited,” Gupta said.
