Being famous at 20,how do you deal with the stardom?
With time I realised that with stardom, there are a few unwanted things that come along. One of them is media interference. With the media,I dont try to be too fussy with privacy. My whole life is in front of the world.
Which is your favourite song from your latest album,Speak Now?
All the songs from the album are really dear to me. I dont have a favourite as such.
How is Speak Now different from your earlier albums?
Its little more mature. When I was 17,I wrote Fearless. And when I grew older,I wrote Speak Now. Its a new chapter of my life.
Have you composed all the songs in the album?
I write all the time. My thought process is about boys and unrequited love. Love is so interesting that we cant figure it out. So,I spent some time trying to figure out why love is so fascinating.
Your grandmother was an opera singer. How did you then choose country music?
I have learnt a lot from my grandmother and she was my idol. The reason why I chose country music is because I really love it.
If you have to chose between films and music what would you opt for?
Music is and always will be my passion. Ever since I was a child,I wanted to be a singer. At the age of 13,I would knock on record companies doors and introduce myself as a singer and a lyricist. I have really not thought about films.
Dear John,a song in Speak Now,is being touted as a revelation of your affair with John Mayer. Is this true?
Its true that I like to mention names in my songs. I like to give details about people I have come across and those dear to me. Dear John is a song very close to my heart. And thats all I can say.
Have you heard any Indian musicians?
Yes,I have heard A R Rahman. I think he has done a great job for Slumdog Millionaire. I would love to visit India someday.
