A student of Bachelor of Arts and his accomplice have been arrested for a string of recent robberies in West and Northwest Delhi Police officers investigating the case said the main accused,a second-year student from Kurukshetra University,has five girlfriends in his hometown and got into crime to bear the costs of simultaneously dating all five.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West),Sharad Aggarwal said the accused student Praveen Nanhe (21) and his accomplice Sandeep Kumar (23),both residents of Sonepat,were heavily influenced by Hindi movies and the prospect of having beautiful girlfriends.
According to police officers,after Class XII,the duo joined training classes for call centres. Police said Praveen befriended a girl in the class,as well as four other girls,and often brought them to the Capital for shopping. When both ran into debts,they decided to commit robberies to make easy money. Sandeep managed to buy a country-made pistol from Uttar Pradesh to rob people at gunpoint. After acquiring the weapon,they started committing robberies in busy showrooms and markets of West and Northwest Delhi, DCP Aggarwal said.
Police officers said on April 22,the two had committed a robbery at a mobile phone shop in Maurya Enclave After that,the two went back to Sonepat,but came back to the capital on Thursday,when they were arrested from the Uttam Nagar bus terminal on basis of a tip-off.
