Streetscaping project launched for route to Chhatrasal Stadium

As part of the plans for sprucing up the city ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games,Mall Road next to Chhatrasal Stadium is all set for a makeover.

Public Works Department (PWD) minister RajKumar Chauhan on Thursday inaugurated the streetscaping project for beautifying the street,which would have pedestrian pathways and separate lanes for cyclists and motorised vehicles.

The project to beautify the 3.6-km stretch along the Games venue is pegged at Rs 25 crore. The streetscaping plan involves constructing lay-bys for cars and autos and a landscaped median with road markings according to international standards.

Chauhan said road stretches spanning 80 km will be beautified by the PWD as part of the streetscaping project,at a cost of Rs 275 crore. The other stretches to be beautified in the project include the road along the JawaharLal Nehru Stadium,the Commonwealth Games Village and the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

The Chhatrasal Stadium has been identified as a training venue for the athletes participating in the event.
