On an unusually breezy Friday night in May,Spanish expats and Delhis glitter-arty grooved to a multimedia experience of music,zany visuals and lights,at the launch of the three-month long festival,Las Ramblas,at Lap in Hotel Samrat,Chanakyapuri. Visual Jockeys Akshar Pillai and Raghav Singh spun a set at the media dome,a circular white diaphanous tent created for the event. What was peculiar about this performance was that each listener had their own pair of wireless ear phones so they could groove and bogey to ear crunching rave music without disturbing the neighbourhood.
We are pushing a vibe where its not just about listening to music but about being part of an audio-visual experience. The hush mob or silent rave is about partying without decibel levels getting in the way hence the earphones, explains Pillai,who quite his media job at National Geographic to spin with fellow VJ Singh. Together the two go by the name Easy Upside.
While the art,food and music were interesting there was nothing particularly Spanish about the experience; perhaps the presence of some Spanish artists over the coming weeks,may make it a bit more like Las Ramblas,the famous street in central Barcelona.
