After almost eight years of experimenting with different kinds of sound and performing across the world,Delhi-based alternative hard rock band Bare Faced Liar is finally out with its debut album. The eponymous album (EMI,Rs 199) with nine tracks, comes in the wake of their win at the Ibibo band competition. Featuring Akshay Chowdhury and Sumant Balakrishnan on guitar and vocals,Dushyant Purohit on bass and Tushar Goyal on percussion, the album is a mishmash of the various kinds of sound the group is known for. I think our album cuts across a series of genres and is an amalgamation of the eclectic musical taste of its members. You will have blues and Indian influences, all strung together, says Chowdhury.
For a band that started playing in 2002 under the name Lynchdpain a time when the underground music scene barely existed the album seems to have come a bit too late. Every band wants a record deal, but we were busy performing for the longest time. Also,Akshay was away in the US while two of us were in Pune, says Purohit. The band may still be reveling in the glory of their track Carnation, that was featured on a couple of international compilations, but does not want to dwell on it. Its all about continuing to do interesting work. We cant stagnate, says Chowdhury.
The album opens with the popular Turismo,a track with heavy guitar riffs and loud vocals. There are a few new tracks like Mirage and Glow. While most of the tracks are personal and deal with love and relationships,we have included tracks that give generic freedom messages, says manager Ashutosh Bharadwaj.
