A 25-year-old software engineer was stabbed and robbed by three men at a DDA park in Bagdaula Village,Dwarka,on Wednesday evening. Vipin Yadav, who works at an IT company in Gurgaon, has been admitted to the ICU at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh.

According to police, the incident took place around 7.30 pm when Yadav was walking home from a local bus stand.

Police said Yadav got off the bus at the stop, located about 500 metres from his residence, and was crossing the DDA park when three men sitting there accosted him. The men asked Yadav to hand over his valuables. When he refused, they stabbed him and made off with Rs 630 in cash, his credit cards and mobile phone.

Though the police claim that a personnel from the police control room (PCR) reached the spot immediately — the Dwarka-South police station is just less than 100 metres away — the victim’s family has refuted this. Yadav’s father,Virendra Yadav, alleged that no police personnel came to the spot and he had to take Yadav to the hospital in his own car. He said police received information about the incident around 9.15 pm when he called them from the hospital.

“I was at the nearby market when I received a call from an unknown number. The caller informed me that my son was lying injured near the park and I immediately rushed to the spot,” said Virendra Yadav said. He is the president of BJP’s Rajnagar Block unit.

Virendra Yadav said when he reached the spot, his son was lying on the road and passersby were trying to stem the blood flowing from the stab wound in the back.

“Vipin told me that after his assailants fled,he managed to get up and come out of the park and call for help. He then gave my number to a passerby and asked him to call me. After that he fell unconscious. No police official was present there,” he said.

He has only one stab wound, but the knife had gone through the lungs, the father said.

“The residents have,on earlier occasions, complained about people consuming alcohol in the park and then indulging in unlawful activities. But the police did not take any action. There have been many cases of chain-snatching and brawls in the past. Now,the residents have decided to protest against the irresponsible attitude of the police. If need be,we will take it upon ourselves the task of providing security in the area,” Yadav said.
