Apeejay hosts Dr Stya Paul chess tournament

Apeejay School,Pitampura hosted the Second Stya Paul Invitational Inter Chess Tournament-2011 from August 4 to 6 in its premises. As many as 23 schools from Delhi and NCR participated enthusiastically in the inter-school event. The tournament was inaugurated by M C Sharma,Controller of Exams,CBSE. Many eminent dignitaries from the Directorate of Education also graced the occasion. An enthralling cultural programme was also presented by the students on the inaugural day. The chief guest,M C Sharma was full of praise for the school administration under the able guidance of the principal,D K Bedi. He also lauded the efforts of the school in promoting sports. Remembering Dr Stya Paul,the Founder Chairman of Apeejay Education Society,Principal D K Bedi stressed on inculcating the right values through sports.The first position was bagged by DPS,Mathura Road,followed by DPS,RK Puram,in the second position. K R Manglam,GK-II,bagged the third position.

Psycho-socio fest held at DPS,RK Puram

Mosaic’11,an interschool psycho-socio fest,was organised by DPS,RK Puram,on August 24. It was the first of its kind to be held in the city. Vithika Rahul,Head of the Department of Psychology and coordinator of the event,extended a warm welcome to all the esteemed judges,Dr Sinchita Bhattacharya,a clinical psychologist at Sama Nursing Home; Manju Bhatt,professor at NCERT,and Dr Ann Simi John,a clinical psychologist at Columbia Asia Hospital and Mayom Hospital. Mrs Rahul highlighted the importance of giving students a platform to try their strengths in the disciplines of Psychology and Sociology. Over 40 schools participated in the event. Three competitions formed the core of the fest: Mind Games — pertaining to psychology and sociology quizzes,Showcase — a presentation competition,and Just-a-Minute (JAM). In Showcase,a team of two students were required to make a power-point presentation on any of the topics,such as ‘The Internet: Its use and abuse by adolescents’,‘Adolescents’ body image and self-esteem’,‘Substance abuse among teenagers’ and ‘moral conflicts’. Faced by Adolescents and their Resolution’ and ‘Sexual Identities and Related Stigmas’. A labyrinth of topics such as ‘Institution of Marriage’ and ‘Personal Freedom’ were handed out to students for JAM,who shared their views on the same. One could see the zest of the students as they answered questions in the Psychology as well as Sociology quizzes. Mother’s International emerged as the overall winner,and also came first in Showcase. The overall runners’ up was Gyan Bharti School,Saket,which also secured the second position. DPS,Sushant Lok secured the first position in the Psychology quiz while Amity International,Saket,came second. In the Sociology quiz,Convent of Jesus and Mary bagged the first position while Ryan International came second. JAM saw DPS,Noida,bagging the first position and Bal Bharati School,GRH Marg,coming second. The principal,D R Saini,gave away the prizes.

‘India Shining’ at Bharti Public School

‘India Shining’,a patriotic extravaganza,was held at Bharti Public School,Mayur Vihar Phase III. The weeklong celebration was a salute to our motherland on its completion of 64 years of Independence. Young Bhartians put up colourful programmes,showcasing unity in diversity through the week. The event included theatre,board decoration,fancy dress and dance performances. The school choir spread patriotic fervour among the public with its melodious music. Freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh,Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji were celebrated. The students pledged to create a new India,free of corruption and terrorism. Overall,the programme left imprints on young minds and encouraged them to follow in the footsteps of great leaders.

DAV,Dwarka,observes Vanmahotsav week

DAV DWARKA has hit the headlines again. The school celebrated Vanmahotsav week from August 16 to 20. It was launched with great fanfare by the students and teachers of the school. Each student brought a sapling,and a massive plantation drive was held. A number of competitions were arranged to highlight the need for ecological balance for the happiness of mankind. Students of Class III adopted an area in the school premises that they will nurture through the session. Competitions pertaining to optimum usage of waste as well as slogan-writing were held for students from Class V to VI respectively. Students of Class VII enthusiastically participated in a compost-making procedure by segregating bio-degradable and non-bio- degradable materials. A herbal garden was created by the students of Class VIII in the school campus. Class IX students indulged in creating graffiti that depicted environment-friendly messages. Poster- making competitions were held for Class X students,during which factors responsible for degrading the ecological balance were spelled out. The need for maintaining the forest wealth,growing more trees and keeping the environment clean dominated the show,and the sincere efforts of the students and teachers were highly applauded by the principal ,S S Mukhija.

Bal Bharti Public School celebrates I-Day

Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,celebrated Independence Day on August 12 in the school campus. The chief guest for the occasion was Brigadier Vashisht,who has been serving in the Indian Army since 1975. The guest of honour was Simmi Kher,country head and advisor,Tony Blair Faith Foundation,and director,Anugrah Foundation,a school for the underprivileged. The programme started with flag hoisting by Brigadier Vashisht,even as the school choir sang the national anthem. This was followed by a performance by the school band,leading the march past. The contingents of the four Houses saluted the national flag amid rain showers,displaying patriotic fervor and love for the Motherland. The vibrant colours of unity,integrity,and festivity were evident in the cultural programme that followed. The mood was set with the students singing Vande Mataram,in accompaniment to the school orchestra. The students of the primary department sang a ballad on the theme of national integration while tiny tots of the Montessori department mesmerised the audience with a dance drama on communal harmony,Aman ka kaarwan. The patriotic song and qawwali had the audience swaying to the melodious renditions. A dance,performed to the tune of Heal the World,and a ballad sung by senior students were appreciated by one and all. Meritorious students were also felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour addressed the gathering,inspiring them with words of wisdom.

DPS RK Puram principal D R Saini receives ‘Bharat Nirman Award’

Dr D R Saini,principal,DPS,RK Puram,was presented with the prestigious ‘23rd Bharat Nirman Award’ on August 21 at the Siri Fort Auditorium for his selfless work for the benefit of mankind in the field of education.

Dr Saini is the recipient of 15 prestigious awards for his dedicated service towards education and sports. During his 33-year-old career,he was the vice principal of DPS,RK Puram,for 14 years. He became its principal on August 2009. 

“It’s a great honour to have received this award as these awards are merely not a recognition of the good work we have done,but they also serve as morale boosters to keep moving ahead in the right direction,” said Dr Saini after receiving the award. He enjoys membership in 27 advisory boards of various institutions and organisations and has presented papers in the United Nations on human rights,education and health.

Bharat Nirman is the only non-government organisation working towards honoring enlightened Indians in fields such as social service,education,administration,journalism,yoga,astrology,meditation,spirituality,industry,art and fashion.
