St. Thomas’ School,Mandir Marg,bid farewell to the batch of 2012-13 with the annual candlelight ceremony on February 1. This ‘all-faith prayer meeting’ is meant to provide solace and reinforce confidence and belief in students to carry them through their lives.

Chief guest Dr S Lakshmi Devi,Principal,Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences,Delhi University,was welcomed with the rendition of one of Tagore’s poems. Principal Anuradha Amos initiated the ceremony with her words. Manager Mrs Manoharan led the school in prayer,with readings taken from various holy scriptures. Melodious hymns interspersed the ceremony. Bishop Rt Rev Sunil K Singh blessed the students and pronounced the benediction. The ceremony ended with the handing over of candles to Class XI with the desire that each student would live up to the school motto ‘Light to Lighten’.

International Children’s Festival Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan

Celebrating the Diversity of the human race,the International Children’s Festival of Peace and Friendship was held in Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,on February 12 in memory of its Founder-Manager Shri Yudhister Kumar. The guest of honour was Stewart Beck,High Commissioner of Canada,a country which has placed itself on the map of inclusion and multiculturalism while setting an example to all nations to value the cultural differences in the world.

Welcoming the guests,Dr Jyoti Bose,principal of Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,said,“At such a crucial time in history,with so much human rights violation,economic disparity,gender inequality,ethnic conflict,religious divide and strife,children and young adults are our only hope for the future and we must continue in our efforts to educate them to live in harmony in today’s plural society.”

Speaking on the great mosaic of the human race,Stewart Beck stressed on the importance of education as the key to instil cultural tolerance and appreciate the uniqueness of diverse cultures.

Remembering the words of Martin Luther King — “We’ve learned to fly the air like birds,we’ve learned to swim the seas like fish,and,yet,we haven’t learned to walk the Earth as brothers and sisters…” Rajni Kumar,Founder-Principal of Springdales School and Chairperson,Springdales Education Society,applauded the students for the magical evening showcasing glimpses of the beauty of different nations and appreciating the spirit of togetherness and oneness.

Senior prize distribution ceremony at Tagore International School

On the February 8,the Annual Senior Prize Distribution ceremony was organised at Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar. Students from classes VI to XII were awarded mementos and certificates for meritorious achievements in the field of academics,sports and co-curricular activities for the session 2012-13. The chief guest for the day was Annapoorna Sehgal.

The cultural programme on the occasion was an amalgamation of song,dance and theatre. It commenced with a welcome song written and composed by music teacher Sumita Dutta and sung by the Indian Music Choir of the school. The prize distribution began with giving away awards to winners of the various inter-house competitions. The ‘Sunshine’ medallions as well as certificates were given to students for voluntary service rendered to help the visually challenged.

Hues of Learning at Delhi Public School,RK Puram

Delhi Public School,RK Puram presented ‘Hues of Learning – A colourful fusion of academics,sports and culture’ on February 17. The event was a joint effort of the students of DPS RK Puram,its junior wings,DPS,Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash,and DPS Shiksha Kendra,a school for the underprivileged run on the premises of the host school. The chief guest was Ashok Chandra,Chairman,DPS Society. Principal Dr D R Saini welcomed the guests. Special guests were Sushil Kumar,Indian world champion in wrestling and Anjum Chopra,former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team. Chairman Ashok Chandra addressed the gathering and congratulated all the participants on their performance.

Another feather in the cap of St Mark’s School

An award and pledge ceremony with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was organised by INTACH on the February 13 at the St Mark’s School. Aryan Chawla,Class IV,received the Special Mention Award in Painting Competition from the Chief Minister.Christina Sharon,vice head girl,and 34 students from other schools of Delhi took the pledge along with Dikshit to honour and protect Delhi’s heritage.

Hillwoods Academy students visit Chief Minister’s house

The students of Hillwoods Academy visited Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s house for a nature walk. Students learnt about bats and various plant and tree species which were seen at the CM’s residence. Dr Sabat,Senior Scientific Officer,informed them that many trees there were as old as 100 years. Dikshit provided students an opportunity to interact with her. They presented handmade cards to Dikshit,which were highly appreciated by her. The students also visited the Study Centre present on the premises.
