Mexican delegation visits Bluebells School A delegation from Olinca School,Mexico,comprising two teachers and 17 children,arrived at the Bluebells School International on November 3. The delegation toured the city with Indian students,visiting sites of historical importance such as the Qutub Minar,Red Fort,Bahai Temple and Humayun Tomb. To give them a complete taste of the local Indian culture,the students were also taken for shopping to Dilli Haat and other prominent markets around the city. Various activities such as poster-making,mirror work and Indian cookery were organised for the students while teachers attended workshops on lesson planning with their Indian counterparts. The delegation was accorded a peep into Indian culture with a formal invitation to a game of kabaddi. A trip was also organised to Agra and Jaipur. Olinca school has been its partner for student exchanges since 1983. Music show mesmerises GD Salwan Public School GD Salwan Public School,Rajinder Nagar,held its annual musical show Sa Ma Pa on November 11. The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the chief guest,flute maestro Ajay Prasanna. It was a classical treat for the children,who were mesmerised by the melodious performances. The accompaniment of the tabla added rich colour to the performance. The artists then won their hearts with the concluding Krishna dhun . Prasanna succeeded in establishing a deeply profound atmosphere at the event,captivating the listeners with his melodious flute playing. Gurgaons Salwan School gets national values award Salwan Public School,Gurgaon,was granted the National Bal Bhavans National Values Award for the year 2010 on November 14 by Kapil Sibal,Union Minister for Human Resource Development. This award was in recognition of the efforts put in by students for the value based publication Sanskala. An amalgamation of culture and art,Sanskala reflected contributions by way of articles,episodes and illustrations invoking the human value of righteousness. As many as 154 Bal Bhavans across the nation participated and the prestigious award was given away to five Bal Bhavans. Indu Khetarpal,principal,Salwan Public School,Sector-15 (II),Gurgaon,received the award from Sibal at the open air theatre of National Bal Bhavan. The mid- term publication is the result of the collective effort of Salwanians at acknowledging and showcasing their rich heritage. It is a fusion of two profound domains,Sanskar and Kala. Sanskar means values,purification and refinement of thought and action while kala deals with the art and technique of imbibing values,cleansing and refining ones personality. Reading marathon held at DPS,Sushant Lok Joining hands with Scholastic India for the programme Read2010: One Nation Reading Together,a reading marathon was organised at DPS Sushant Lok on November 26 from 12 to 12.30 pm. The idea behind it was to inculcate within everyone a love for reading. Every individual students,teachers,administrative staffers and heads of the school sat down to read books for half an hour. Particularly heart warming was an initiative taken by some students to read stories out aloud to support staff-helpers,guards and bus drivers. The response was phenomenal as they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and even put forward a request through students that they also wished to learn how to read,write and experience the true joy of reading. All in all,the reading marathon proved to be a novel initiative and was greatly appreciated by everybody concerned. Annual day at Navy Children School,Chanakyapuri Navy Children School,Chanakyapuri,celebrated its annual day on November 25. Admiral Nirmal Verma,the head of Naval staff,graced the occasion as the chief guest. A s many as 900 students participated in a glittering cultural extravaganza that charted the history of Delhi,right from the ancient days to the present era. The theme of the event was Aviral Dhara. The programme was a fascinating journey as it portrayed the Indian Capital as a powerhouse of kings and dynasties,ranging from the Indraprastha in Mahabharat to Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad to what it is today. The students took the audience through the pages of history as they put up on display the Mughal conquest and the struggle for freedom during the British Raj. A tableau showcasing the Asian Games,Commonwealth Games,Metro and other glorious achievements by the enigmatic city of Delhi also occupied a place of pride in the event. The grand finale was a power packed performance,an amalgamation of dance,sports,yoga and gymnastics. Sports day at Hillgrove Public School Hillgrove Public School,Safdarjung,celebrated Sports Day in the school premises on November 20. The chief guest at the occasion was Harbinder Singh ,three times Olympian and vice chairman of JN Nehru Hockey Society. The chairman of the school,Raj Singh Gehlot,and manager,Sheela Gehlot,also graced the occasion. Among the other dignitaries present were DPS principal Pushpa Agarwal, RKPs Shiksha Kendra,parents and grandparents of the students. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest,followed a rendition of the Swagatam song by the school choir. Principal Jeanie N Aibara delivered the welcome address. The chief guest and the chairman formally declared the sports day open by releasing white doves and balloons into the sky. The celebration began with the rhythmic performance by tiny tots to A R Rehmans Oscar winning number Jai Ho. The students of of class one,with silver pompoms in hands,presented aerobics on the foot tapping Waka Waka. Class two students performed meticulously synchronised PT exercises with colourful balls. The hoops drill by class three students depicted the most important invention of mankind the wheel. The sports drill by class four students stole the show. The drill was performed with the help of various sports equipment such as hockey sticks,footballs,basketballs,badminton raquets,cricket bats,skates and bicycles to the scintillating beat of Dan dana dan. The last in the category was the dandiya,a traditional dance form from Gujarat. Mini-athletic meet at Paramount,Dwarka It is not an exaggeration to say that fun and games is as basic to a childs total development as good food,cleanliness,and rest. Hence,to pay tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehrus long-cherished dream of ensuring liberated childhoods,a mini-athletic meet was held at the Paramount International School,Dwarka. Held on November 14,the mini-athletic meet got to a flying start with a thought-provoking message by R L Saroha,GM of the Paramount International School. The students displayed their athletic prowess and rendered enthusiastic participation in a few of the unique races created for the occasion,such as Come On Buddy,Cat Walk,Cleanliness Drive,Shapes Fun,etc.
