Modern school,Vasant Vihar (MSVV),organised Young Leaders Conclave aimed at nurturing tomorrow’s leaders. The first day,July 31,commenced with the Principal,Ms. Meenakshi Sahni,warmly greeting all the participants & staff members. Mr. Salman Khurshid,External Affairs Minister,graced the function. Mr. Khurshid was introduced to the august gathering by Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh,President,Board of Trustees,Modern Schools. He said,“Mr. Salman Khurshid is a statesperson by birth,by education,by action and by performance.”

The second day of the conclave,August 1,was graced by Mr. Amarjit Singh and Ms. Agrima Bhasin. The chief guest,Mr. Arnab Goswami,Editor in Chief,Times Now,was warmly greeted by the august gathering. The Principal in her address said: “Why not broaden the horizon of leadership? Why not create a generation of capable leaders who will be the trailblazers of our nation?” Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh,stressed on two important aspects of leadership – passion and purpose. Mr. Arnab Goswami highlighted five aspects that he felt defined a leader — Don’t be a leader for yourself; be opinionated; lose your sense of fear; have an unimpeachable sense of honesty and integrity & be the change you want to see. What followed was an interactive session with Mr. Goswami. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the school headgirl,Sarah Varghese.

The Indian School hosts computer symposium

On july 26,2013,The Indian School hosted AEON 2013,an annual interschool computer symposium. More than 200 students from 26 leading public schools of Delhi/NCR participated in several categories: AEON Design,DJ,

Arcade,Theatre,Tech and Surprise. The chief guest,Dr. Gautam Shroff,Vice-President and Chief Scientist,TCS,lauded the school’s effort in providing an eclectic forum to stimulate and ignite brilliant young minds. The judges for the event were Dr. Vinayak S. Naik and Dr. Somitra

Symposium at

DPS,RK Puram

The interact Club of DPS,RK Puram organised an Interact Club symposium on July 25,2013 on the topic ‘Anti-bullying — bullies non-grata’. The Principal,Dr. D.R. Saini,welcomed all the guests. Also present were the Vice-Principal,Mrs. Shobha Mehta and Mrs. Renu Panwar,in-charge of the Interact Club and the coordinator of the event. The valedictory programme began with a warm welcome by the Principal to the chief guest,Rotarian Prashant Sehgal,District Chairman (’13-’14),Director of Youth Services,Rotary Club,New Delhi,and Mr. Bansal,district governor nominee in the Rotary club.

GD Salwan Public School wins volleyball tourney

The volleyball team of GD Salwan Public School,Rajinder Nagar,was the winner of the inter-school tournament organised by and held at Aadharshila Vidyapeeth,Pitampura. Around 16 schools from all over Delhi participated. The school won the four best positions. The team won a gold medal in sub-junior category,another gold in junior girls’ category,gold in senior boys’ category and a silver medal in sub-junior boys’ category. School Principal Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh praised the team’s effort and congratulated the students.

Amity International holds math exhibition

mathamity 2013-14 was held at AIS-Sector 46 on July 20,2013,wherein a plethora of maths projects were put together by the students. The formal inauguration was done by Principal Arti Chopra. A nukkad natak was also presented by the students highlighting the importance of maths in our lives,followed by a performance by the school rock band. The exhibition was then thrown open to parents. Mathamity is held every alternate year.

Faith Academy marks golden jubilee

To mark the celebration of the Golden Jubilee Year of Faith Academy,inter-school competitions were held from July 22 to July 29,2013. The week-long celebration created an environment of learning and instilled the spirit of excellence in students,as the competitions ranged across Calligraphy,Nukkad Natak,Ad-Venture,Number Play,Science Toons,Computer Skit,Art,Choir,Sports etc. The highlight of the competitions was ‘A Shakespearean Excerpt’,where the splendid performances took us back to the Shakespearean era. The competitions attracted a large number of participants from different schools in Delhi,including Mount Carmel,St. Thomas,Holy Child,Somerville,Montfort,Presentation Convent etc. Many Christian schools also participated in the Bible Verse Memorization competition.

Birla Vidya Niketan holds training for teachers

Birla vidya Niketan,Pushp Vihar IV, hosted EUMIND Teachers Training Programme on July 20,2013. The training session was organised by EUMIND chairperson Mr. Desmond D’Monte. Around 25 teachers from renowned schools in Delhi and NCR attended the programme. Ms. Minakshi Kushwaha,the Principal,welcomed Ms. Reetuparna Ganguly (International Coordinator) and the teachers. The training session was conducted by Ms. Reetuparna Ganguly. One of the highlights of the programme was the videoconferencing between the teachers of Eumind,Delhi Chapter,and Mr Ludo Mateusen and Pentti Pirhonen,Chairperson of Eumind,Europe.

Physics lab unveiled

at Springdales,DK

Newly renovated Physics laboratory at Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,was inaugurated on July 22,2013,by Mr. Suraj Prakash,former Principal,CRPF Public School,and the Principal,Dr. Jyoti Bose. A booklet on “Innovative Techniques and Best Practices in the Teaching of Physics” written by the teachers – Mrs. Nidhi Maan and Mrs. Mandeep Sukhija — was released by the Principal and the esteemed guest. Speaking on the occasion,Mr. Prakash emphasised that it was essential to create interest in physics and encourage students to be more inquisitive and analytical.

Math Week at Mount Carmel,Anand Niketan

Mount carmel School celebrated MATH WEEK from July 22 to July 27,2013,to draw the interest of students to the subject. The event began with celebration of PI Day on July 22. The celebration was packed with informative and hilarious performances by students of all classes. There were speeches,poem,skit,dance and a quiz. It was followed by MATH MELA by students of class IV and V the next day. The juniors presented mathematical puzzles. Then,there were debate competition,quiz and simulated teaching competitions for various classes.

Africa Week function at Springdales,Pusa Road

The valedictory Function of the Africa Week was held at Springdales School,Pusa Road,to coincide with the 95th birthday celebrations of Dr. Nelson Mandela. Dignitaries gracing the occasion included Ms. Lorna Daniels,Political Counselor,South African High Commission,His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Hacene Escharif,Mrs. Imane Dehibi,Cultural Attache,Algerian Embassy and Dr. Kiran Mehra Kerperlman,Director,United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan.

The Principal Mrs. Ameeta Mulla Wattal in her welcome address referred to the shared past and future of India and the countries of Africa. She said that there were valuable lessons to be learnt from Mandela’s contribution to humanitarian causes and that his extraordinary life was an inspiration for everyone. Ms. Lorna Daniels,Political Counselor,South African High Commission,in her message,spoke about how Mandela Day was a momentous reminder of the power of selfless service to bring positive change in our world.

Speaking at the event,Dr. Rajni Kumar,Chairperson,Springdales Education Society,reminisced the association with South Africa and urged the students to carry forward the legacy.
