Aahat Season 4
Sony,Fri-Sat at 11 pm
Rating ***
Whats it about? The name Aahat itself makes it quite clear that it is an extension of the horror show weve been watching since Sony launched 10 years ago. This season though, comes with a complete makeover. Instead of new stories and characters every week, there are three young protagonists that will remain constant. They work under a crooked old man,Durjan,at the Paranormal and Supernatural Activities Research centre. Their job is to capture paranormal activity on camera and submit it to Durjan who then reports to a mystery boss.
Whos in it?In their attempt to attract a young audience the protagonists are being played by relatively young actorsChaitanya Choudhary,Vishal Gandhi and Krystle DSouza. Choudhary has earlier starred in Kavyanjali and Sangam,Gandhi is from Bandhan Saath Janmon Ka and DSouza from Kya Dill Mein. They have all given a decent and underplayed performance which is relief from the overacting spirits and zombies around them.
Whats hot?The new concept is definitely more refreshing and fast paced. The plot does manage to keep you hooked and curious,if not scare you. A lot of effort has gone into the special effects, which might not blow your mind away but are realistic enough.
Whats not?Durjan is supposed to be a spooky old man but is highly irritating. Hes been given every cliché of creepy old men in horror showsfrom the pointed ears and horrible make-up to the slow, long drawl. Since there are young researchers involved,we expected some scientific reasoning or maybe even slightly believable plots. But it looks like we expected too much because the show doesnt even come close. The spirits looks like theyre wearing the same costumes and make-up from a decade ago and have way too many strange facial expressions.
Should you be watching it?If youre craving to get your eyes on some paranormal activity you should watch some documentaries on Discovery instead. This late night show does not have an inkling of realism but does manage to entertain and keep you hooked till the end. Watch, but dont expect to be scared off the couch.
