With Assembly elections in the offing in Delhi, the RSS has started to take stock of voting patterns to better the BJP’s chances of forming government in the capital.
RSS functionaries are analysing booth-wise voting patterns to understand trends and polling percentages. The analysis of each Lok Sabha constituency, where the vote share of the AAP has increased, has become a case study for the RSS, sources said.
“In order to know who has voted for the AAP, we have been studying the voting pattern booth-wise. When we complete the data we would know what community and strata voted for the AAP and thus we will be able to zero in on such voters. We might not have been able to understand their aspirations. Such votes went to the AAP, making it second-largest party (in vote share) in the capital,” said a senior leader.
The Kirari Assembly constituency has been considered for the case study as it was the only constituency where the BJP lost to the AAP. It is to be noted that in recent Assembly elections, the BJP won Kirari with the highest margin, it cornered 52.15 per cent of the total votes polled.
“Why we fared badly in Kirari is a subject of assessment. We won this seat with the highest margin a few months ago. We need to know what has changed in the voters’ mind to the extent that we lost a comfortable seat to AAP this Lok Sabha election,” said another leader.
The RSS worked in tandem with BJP candidates during the Lok Sabha elections and carried out door-to-door campaigning, ensuring maximum turnout of voters.
“The RSS campaigned in the Assembly elections too, but party leaders took upon themselves the task of door-to-door campaigning, which was not done effectively, a fact accepted by the top brass. In the Lok Sabha polls, the RSS did not leave campaigning to the candidates alone,” the leader said.
