Delhi girl Ratnika Batra, who was the only Indian in the French Open girls juniors this year and also the first girl to represent the country after Poojashree Venkatesha did the same in 2007,lost the second round of the championship.

Ratnika went down tamely to German qualifier Antonia Lottner 6-1 6-2. Ratnika had given a good account of herself by allowing her first round opponent to win just one game in her 6-0 6-1 thrashing of local player and wild card Estelle Cascino but she couldn’t continue the form against a player ranked below her in the junior rankings.

Ratnika has also entered girls junior doubles along with Korea’s Su Jeong Jang but they are due to start against top seeds Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and USA’s Taylor Townsend. Ratnika had also crashed out in straight sets in the first round of last week’s Asterid Bowl — a clay court Grade 1 preparatory event for the junior Slam, which was hosted by Belgium.
