Congress MP Rahul Gandhi Thursday met and interacted with porters at East Delhi’s Anand Vihar railway station. He even went on to wear the red uniform shirt and badge they gave him and briefly carried a suitcase on his head as he walked along with them.
Meanwhile, the BJP called Rahul Gandhi’s visit theatrics, questioning the wheels on the suitcase he chose to carry on his head. It also took the opportunity to talk about measures in place at railway stations for the convenience of passengers.
According to the Congress, the Wayanad MP’s visit was in reaction to requests last month from porters engaged in the area — among Delhi’s busiest and most significant transit points.

“We want Rahul Gandhi ji to come and visit us, just for five minutes,” said one of the porters in a video that the party shared along with visuals of his visit.
“I believe he is pro-poor, he walks along with them and seems to have the interests of the poor at heart…my message for him is to continue with his hard work…the Bharat Jodo Yatra is going to prove very beneficial for him,” another porter said in the video.
“We just want to discuss our issues with him; we believe he will listen and do something about them,” said another.

On August 1, Rahul Gandhi interacted with vendors at Delhi’s wholesale vegetables and fruits market in reaction to a video of a vegetable vendor in tears talking about rising prices resulting in difficulties for him and others like him.
Before that, he had met and interacted with mechanics at Karol Bagh, where he also tried his hand at two-wheeler repairing.
