When Elevate shut down six months ago,we thought that nightlife in Noida would never be the same again. But at the address where Elevate once stood (Centrestage Mall),has opened another nightclub,Quantum, with equally impressive statistics 18,000 sq ft of floor space, with four levels that can accommodate 3,000 guests on a busy night. On Friday, the inaugural night, the dance floor packed in 800 clubbers.
The first impression, however,is hardly striking. There are rows of multi-coloured LED beams from the ceiling lighting up the staircase that leads up to the main entrance, creating the feeling of walking through a tunnel. The first level is done in dark tonesgreys and blacks. We did not want to invest heavily on the furniture and the interior decor. A person comes to a club primarily for the music,so we focused on that, says Kartikey Bhargava,Corprate Head,Marketing. Next comes the mezzanine, reserved for VIPs and dominated by an aluminium tree with large fibre glass leaves that glint eerily with green light. Theres no dance floor, but the music from the first floor booms loud enough for a couple or two to try a few steps. Theres a VVIP section, too,on the third floor where tables are priced at Rs 35,000 each. The fourth floor is being converted into a lounge.
The main action will be on the first level, where the DJ will mix his stuff and the bartender his. The playlist here will have international acts like Paul Oakenfold,Israeli DJ Skazi,Above and Beyond, and DJ Tiesto. We want to move away from Bollywood and Punjabi tracks since there is an overkill. The emphasis will be on hip-hop,trance and commercial house music, says DJ Ribbs, one of the four resident DJs here.
A multi-coloured laser beam creates 3D images across the room, over the DJ console, the Bar and the dance area, giving the space a psychedelic feel. The main dance area (on the first floor, though nobodyll stop you from shaking a leg anywhere on the premise) has a bodysonic floor that vibrates in harmony with a persons movements. With the acoustics amped up to 150,000 watts you can be assured that your insides will be shaken up each time you step on to the dance floor. The Bar has small hexagonal coves on the wall filled with bottles on which the dancing light and shade creates strange illusory effects.
A short walk away from the dance floor is a room with live food counters. The music does not filter through the walls here, and the only attraction is the chefs finger food. Here,we have a no music no alcohol policy, says Bhargava. But dont get your hopes high, you will not get main course dishes here. Instead, the tidbits will fuel you enough to set the dance floor on fire.
