Private schools in Delhi will soon come under the government’s scanner as the authorities have decided to look into the fee structure of these schools to ensure the fees charged are not exorbitant.
Sources said on Tuesday that the government will examine the fees charged by various schools depending on complaints received.
“Various factors of private schools’ fee structure will be looked into to ensure that there is no fleecing by these schools, that the fees charged are rational, how the fee amount is arrived at and also whether the purpose of land allotted to the school is served,” a government source said.

Schools charging exorbitant fees will be asked to reduce the amount, but if there is no compliance, they will face action.
Fees charged by private unaided schools have also been under the court’s scrutiny since 2011. In August 2011, the Delhi High Court had set up a committee to scrutinise the accounts of various unaided private schools. The three-member committee, headed by former Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Anil Dev Singh, had by September 2014 examined the financial records of 741 private unaided schools in Delhi.
