Power failure at IGI terminal

The IGI Airport’s international terminal had to go without power for at least 24 hours after supply cables snapped due to the ongoing construction work on the Airport Express Metro Line,due to be finished by early next year.

The IGI Airport’s international terminal had to go without power for at least 24 hours after supply cables snapped due to the ongoing construction work on the Airport Express Metro Line,due to be finished by early next year.

According to IGI officials,the powercut began at 4 pm Tuesday after cables supplying power to the airport got damaged due to the construction work. Air-conditioners in certain parts of the terminal stopped working as a result till normal power supply was restored,at 4 pm Wednesday. “Power supply to Terminal 2 (International),was interrupted due to a breach in the cables as a result of DMRC construction work outside the terminal. All essential systems of the terminal were put on backup power supply,” a DIAL official said.

“The international terminal ran on emergency power backup system in the interim,” an IGI official said.

Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said flight operations remain unaffected. He said,“Cables had snapped in the night and was repaired in morning.”
