Elton Fernandez has always believed in following his heart and therein lies his mantra for success. A graduate in English literature,political science and world history,Fernandez first took a detour by opting to pursue a full-time freelance career in makeup and hair,and in a short span of time,his clientele expanded to include actors Sonam Kapoor,Sonakshi Sinha,Kalki Koechlin and Shruti Haasan. Now,with his Spring-Summer 2013 collection,he makes his debut in the world of fashion design. His signature label was launched last week at the Mumbai store,Atosa. “I aim to celebrate the simple and arresting nature of a woman’s sensuality through this line,” says Fernandez. Bollywood actor Poorna Jagannathan sported an outfit from his first collection at the Mumbai premiere of Midnight’s Children; she wore a two-toned dress with white organza embroidery.

Known to globally encourage,cultivate and facilitate talent in the field of design as well as foster collaborations,textile and fibre brand Woolmark has announced designer Rajesh Pratap Singh to be its first ever “wool ambassador” for India. The new role is apt for the designer,given his in-depth knowledge in textile engineering and his ability to “manipulate wool and noble fibre” while injecting it with a sense of minimalism. “This is the first time we have associated with an Indian designer to come on board as the Wool Ambassador for India. With this association,we hope to take wool awareness to its next level,” says Amir Sheikh,Country Manager (India),The Woolmark Company. The designer’s vision for merino wool is to develop it as a premium fashion fibre,and he will use it in his upcoming collections,starting with Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2013. “I have always been amazed by the brilliance and superiority of merino wool and this association gives me an opportunity to promote this unique fiber across the country,” says Singh.
