The moods of Karachi will prevail over Kolkata on January 14,as Pakistani writers Shehryar Fazli,Nighat Gandhi and Bina Shah get together with Kolkata-based writer Anjum Katyal to discuss their country and their works. The discussion is part of the three-day Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival,an annual event that started last year to provide Kolkata,a city of book lovers and writers,a more vibrant literary atmosphere. Fazlis debut book,Invitation,is about a mans search for a sense of citizenship in Pakistan,where he has returned after 19 years in Paris. He says,This is my first literary festival,hopefully many will follow. The Pakistan contingent is among the 35 writers participating in the festival. London-based writer Patrick French,Shailja Patel,a poet and performer from Nairobi and Berkley,USA,and Giti Chandra,writer of The Fang of Summoning are part of the line-up. Besides book launches and readings and interactions with writers,the festival will also include a range of events involving films,art and craft and street theatre. The event will be held till January 16 in Kolkata.
