On the House

Monday evening in the Capital saw an unusual book launch.

Vote of Confidence, the debut novel of Aashti Bhartia, narrates the story of 17 young parliamentarians of India. The 28-year-old debutante author has detailed the experiences and aspirations of MPs such as Akhilesh Yadav,Sachin Pilot,Jyotiraditya Scindia,Meenakshi Natarajan,Ashok Tanwar,Jitin Prasada,Jayant Chaudhary,Milind Deora,Deepender Hooda and Anurag Thakur, among others.

Bhartia says her debut as an author was largely unplanned. “I accidentally started writing about youth in politics. I visited the constituencies of young leaders, spent time in their offices and studied their conduct. The book will help readers know these young politicians better,” said Bhartia, who has also written for The Indian Express.

The launch event at Diplomat Hotel saw a wide turnout of politicians and people from Delhi society, including some of MPs who have been written about in the book — Jyotiraditya Scindia,Kalikesh Deo,Deepender Hooda and Anurag Thakur — who were also part of the panel.

Apart from the subjects themselves, politicians Shashi Tharoor and Arun Jaitley,UID chief Nandan Nilekani and designer Rohit Bal were also spotted.
