(Representational image, file) After the Delhi Metro’s announcement to introduce QR code-based ticketing, Noida Metro on Thursday started Unified Payments Interface (UPI) option at ticket counters across all 21 stations of Aqua Line to enhance passenger convenience.
The new facility was launched by Dr Lokesh M, the managing director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), at Sector-51 metro station.
“In order to promote digital payments in line with Government of India directions for promotion of digital payment, ensure smooth operations and facilitate the passengers, new payment option of UPI has been enabled in the TOM interface at ticket counters,” said the NMRC in a statement.
The passengers can buy tickets by cash, credit/debit card (using POS) and UPI at the metro stations.
In the UPI mode of payment, the QR code with relevant fare details will get displayed to the passenger on the display of TOM towards passenger side as well as to the operator as shown in the display.
The passenger shall scan the QR code and after the payment, TOM display will show — ‘Ticket print’ — to generate the ticket and transaction receipt.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) joined forces through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce QR code-based ticketing for DMRC services via the IRCTC platform, as a part of the “One India-One Ticket Initiative”.
