No Kid Affair

The festival boasts of children jury members from across the world.

Much like the idea of democracy, the Chinh India Kids Film Festival & Forum appears to work on the all-encompassing principle of ‘by the children,of the children, for the children’. A festival dedicated to documentaries and films programmed by and for children,a format not seen in the mainstream film industry,Chinh India will kick off its seventh international edition on November 9 with the theme,“Let’s Connect”. The festival boasts of children jury members from across the world and this year, there are 1,000 jury members from South Korea,Japan,Italy,Russia Canada and India, who have selected films for the festival.

“This form of programming is not recognised in India. We want to show that this genre of filmmaking can exist and this edition has come back, stronger,” says Vinay Rai,educator and filmmaker who started Chinh with wife Meenakshi. The festival has films from three categories – pre-school (four to six years),early education ( seven to 12 years) and animation (13 to 17 years).

There are over 50 films that will be screened at multiple venues on November 9 and 11,and are all within 30 minutes long,a format apt for the attention span of children. One will find poignant stories such as Daddy’s Garden,an 11-minute film from the US about a girl trying to fit into a posh private school,or Dunya aur Larki from Pakistan, about experiences of unprivileged girls in Pakistan who want to study but are denied the opportunity. On a lighter vein,a short animation from Singapore titled Spycat and the Paper Chase, follows the adventures of Spycat as he hunts down Captain Chico, resulting in an ultimate showdown between a cat and a dog. The screenings will be accompanied by various workshops. Registration opens on November 9.

The festival will be held at CHINH SVISG Media Village,2nd Street,Shanti Niketan; India Habitat Centre,Lodhi Road; and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra,1,Circular Road,Teen Murti Marg,Chanakyapuri. For schedule and entry, visit and register at http://www.chinh.in EFS
