No colour-coded sticker, no PUC certificate: Delhi’s Transport department sounds fresh warning

The notice further read, “Non-compliance will also attract the provisions of Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988…The vehicle owners are advised to ensure strict compliance with the aforesaid order.” Under Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the owner can be fined or imprisoned if vehicles are not registered properly.

High Security Number Plate (HSRP) is a unique registration plate, designed to be tamper-proof and difficult to counterfeit, which enhances vehicle security and tracking.

The HSRP number plate was first introduced in Delhi in the year 2012-13 and was made mandatory for all new vehicles. In 2019, the Delhi government made it compulsory for all old vehicles, along with the use of fuel or colour-coded stickers.

Later, in 2020, the Transport Department ran an aggressive drive against vehicles not complying with the guidelines, warning a fine of Rs 5,000.

While diesel vehicles are marked with an orange sticker, petrol vehicles and CNG vehicles get a blue sticker under the colour-coded system. All other vehicles get a gray sticker.
