In what is possibly a first-of-its-kind art auction in India,works by anonymous artists will go under the hammer from October 20 to 22 at the CK Nayadu Hall,CCI Club,Churchgate,Mumbai. The auction,titled Anonymous,challenges the usual practice at auctions. While a work is generally valued according to the prominence of its artist in the market or its own history,this auction will be a litmus test of sorts for art connoisseurs. They will have to judge the value of an artwork solely on its own artistic quality. Moreover,the bids will be secret. The items on auction include 35 paintings and 15 sculptures,the latter made from glass beads,stainless steel and bronze among others. Paintings and sculptures by 25 up-and-coming artists are up for grabs.
